SERMON: Woody Allen and the Pewish Problem

There are two words that sound almost the same that have been uttered quite a bit these past few weeks in the Jewish community.  The two words are definitely connected. The words are: “Pew and Phew.” “Pew” – spelled P-E-W, is the name of a non-profit research center to help stimulate public and civic life.  It recently published a survey of the American Jewish community and the response of many was: “Phew” – a word used to express disbelief, wariness or outright disgust.
