Japan and Purim

A strange thing happened to me last Saturday night and Sunday morning. While listening to the Megillah I was not thinking about what had occurred in ancient Persia, what I was really thinking about was what has occurred in modern day Japan because one explains the other.

There are no words to describe the tragedy that has struck Japan. No, make that tragedies … first an earthquake, then a tsunami and then nuclear radiation. It defies
imagination, but it is very real. And it is very hard to make sense of. Why all three? Why does God allow for such events to occur? Why Japan of all places to have a nuclear crisis? Many answers are offered, but in reality there are no good answers. But there is a perspective – a perspective that is made clear through the story of Purim. READ MORE.
